Medical Device:

The medical device industry is an indispensable component of healthcare industry along with pharmaceuticals. With the developments in the medical technologies, similar to the pharmaceuticals industry, use of medical devices has increased significantly resulting in increased healthcare expenses all over the world. Medical device industry is an industry containing a large variety of product groups and technologies from syringes, to tomographs, bioinformatics or even devices consisting of cells produced by virtue of engineering, however, its scope differs from country to country. Due to differences in definitions, obtaining statistically appropriate and valid data for medical devices, and comparing them with those available in other countries requires complex and special efforts not only in Turkey, but all over the world. Medical devices are defined as any vehicles, tools, equipment, software, accessories or other materials, including the software required for their intended function. The device, does not perform their primary function on humans by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic effects but can provide the se effects while performing their functions. These devices can be used in humans for;

  1. Diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of the disease or
  2. Diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, alleviation of injury or disability or elimination of malformation or
  3. Investigation, modification or replacement of an anatomical or physiological function
  4. Use in birth control which can be used alone or in combination with other products, and are manufactured especially for diagnosis and/or treatment purposes.

The medical device industry requires a multidisciplinary approach. This industry utilizes expertise from informatic, mechanic, electronic, physics, chemistry, medicine and/or pharmacy disciplines.
